This is Drake

This is Drake was written by Year 5 for our Summer Arts Festival 2021. They wrote the poem with our Arts Lead Mrs Booth to accompany a digitial soundscape of the school that they created with our Musician in Residence, Mr Taylor.

This is Drake

Listen! This is Drake.     

Children talking, pencils tapping

Friends playing, “You’re it!”

Teachers calling “Good morning!”
Choirs singing “Oleo”
Listen! This is Drake.

Laughing, clapping, humming, sliding.
Trains screeching zooming by.
Teachers clapping XXX
Hometime buzzer beep beep
Listen! This is Drake.

Yet Drake is more than the sounds that surround us.

Drake gives us the courage to make marvelous mistakes
Drake gives us the hope and courage to dream big dreams
Drake gives us the space to grow like a tree
Drake teaches us, supports us, encourages us, inspires us.
This is Drake.
This is our Drake.

Drake is like a rainbow, full of unique colours
Drake is like a rocket ship, blasting us off into a galaxy of adventures.

Drake is like a hot air balloon lifting us higher and higher

Drake is like a library, pull out a book and you get a different story each time

This is Drake.
This is our Drake.
We are Drake.

We learn, we play, we grow, we laugh
We love, we trust, we forgive, we achieve.
We are scientists, poets, musicians, sportspeople
We are authors, mathematicians, artists, citizens
We are the future!
