Social and Emotional Learning

We use social and emotional learning (SEL) tools not just within our specialist provision, but across the school.

What is the Zones of Regulation?

The Zones of Regulation is an evidence based curriculum to support pupils with their emotional regulation and wellbeing. It includes a sequences of lessons, related resources and tools which can be used to support pupils to identify their emotions and to use strategies to self-regulate.

What do we do?

As part of our Zones of Regulation approach, we have created a routine of regular zones 'check-in' times throughout the day. These 'check-in' stations are in each classroom across our school.

When arriving at school we take our names and put them in the zone that corresponds with how we are feeling. We talk about why we might be feeling like that and what strategies we can use to support us to self-regulate.

We have been identifying the emotions both in ourselves and in others through videos, stories and our class texts. We have also started to expand our emotion vocabulary to include more complex emotions for each of the zones.
