Computing

During the computing lesson we learnt about simple animation techniques and created our own animations in the style of flipbooks (flick books) using sticky notes. First of all we had to draw pictures in a sequence and to flick the pages quickly to make the picture move. We also learnt to used Stop Motion app to create an effective stop frame animation. We can't wait to learn more about animation.

The Year 3 children came back to school on Tuesday to find that a mysterious creature had left sandy footprints through our classrooms  and had left a mess! Everybody was shocked to find the huge footprints and various objects that the creature had left behind. Even our attendance trophy, books and plant pot were knocked down!
We thought about who the creature could be by thinking 'what do we know from the evidence left behind' and what we can deduce from this. We made predictions about where the creature had come from, what it could have been and where it might be now. We think that a troll has been causing mischief in our classrooms. We discovered our next Talk 4 Writing unit would be to write instructions on how to trap a troll.

Thank you to all the families who attended our reading cafe on Iron Man and for all your support with reading at home.

We looked at the Stone Age paintings from the Chauvet Cave in France. We created our own charcoal cave art- handprints, wild animals, tools and settlements.

BioBlitz: We explored the red playground in Autumn, looking for living things (plants, insects and fungi).

Trip to Norwich Castle: The Mystery of Prehistory. How life changed from the Stone Age, through the Bronze Age and onto the Iron Age. The children enjoyed acting out Neolithic village life, sorting flints in an archaeology workshop, Bronze age weaving and classifying Iron Age metals.

Rock testing: We explored the properties of chalk, marble, basalt and sandstone. We were testing the rocks to see if they were sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic. We undertook four tests: visual check, testing the hardness, testing the permeability and the acid test (to discover if the rocks were made of the shells of dead creatures).

High Lodge

On our first day in year 3, we went on an adventure to High Lodge in Thetford forest. We practised our aim in archery, created art with natural materials, took part in team games (including football, parachute and circle games) and explored the music trail. We ended the day in the play area and enjoyed the huge slide!
