Drake Music Team

Our aim is for every child to leave our primary school able to play musical instruments, and having had the opportunity to sing in choirs and play in an orchestra - a gift that will stay with them for a lifetime. We have a strong team of musicians from the Norfolk Music Hub  working with our children across the school to achieve this aim.

Mrs Levy is in school 2 1/2 days a week as our Strings and piano teacher working with children right across the school. She also runs a string ensemble for some of our string pupils.

Mr Taylor is one of our Musicians in Residence and is in school every Thursday. This year he is working in every KS2 year group. In Year 3 he is teaching children to play the recorder, building on the work they did with Mr Draycott last year. Our Year 4s are having another year of trumpets. Our Year 5s are going be developing a 'class band' with Mr Taylor over the year. They are starting with Ukulele this term and will be taking their ukuleles to the Royal Albert Hall to perform in November! Our Year 6s are going to be using ipads with Mr Taylor to learn how to create and compose their own music.

This term Mr Taylor will also be running a  lunchtime ukulele club and after half term, he will be leading our School Orchestra.

Mrs Carruthers is our other Musician in Residence who will be enhancing our Music Curriculum across KS2. She’ll be working with every KS2 class on a Wednesday teaching them to read, write and compose music. She will also be leading our KS2 choir and offering a lunchtime music for wellbeing sessions with some of our pupils.
