End of year expectations

We acknowledge and accept that children have had their education disrupted by Covid19 and the closure of schools. However, we aim to reduce the impact of this as much as possible. We continue to have high expectations of children in school in regards to both behaviour and learning and are working in partnership with parents to support them as required including home learning opportunities.

Towards the end of Year 1, the children will still have their phonics screening check to ensure that they can use their phonics to decode words. We are providing continued teaching and additional support to help children to reach their potential within the year to enable this success.

Year 2 missed their phonics screening check in Year 1. The phonics screening check ate changed to November 2021. Any children who do not meet the threshold at this time, will have another assessment at the end of the year. Year 2 will also have their Key Stage 1 standardised assessments (SATS) this year. There will be 2 Maths papers, 2 Reading papers and 2 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling papers.  Teacher assessment will be used in conjunction with these assessments to make an informed assessment decision at the end of the year. In writing, the children will provide writing for different purposes which will be assessed. Teachers use specific criteria to make their final assessments which are moderated.
