  • Coronavirus Update

    Tue 17 Mar 2020

    Dear families,

Whilst these are extremely worrying times, Drake Primary School and Little Pirates Child Care remain open.  We are as worried as you about the Corona Virus. Little Pirates will remain open whilst staff ratios can be maintained and please be assured we are working hard on this. We are in daily contact with Public Health England and are following their advice.

Please do all you can by following guidance regarding hand washing and social distancing.

Look after our school staff to ensure your child’s teachers and support staff remain well by:

-Using email to contact the office with any communication for admin and teachers. The glass will remain closed and parents are asked to use the drop box located in the office foyer for payment drop off.

-Parents will not be able to attend class assemblies and cafes

-Face to face parent meetings are cancelled. Communication will be rearranged via email.

-If you or any family-member are displaying symptoms please do not come onto the school site.

-With regards to cleaning products and hand-sanitiser, the school has been well stocked and we are taking care with the stock we currently have.

Thank you for your continuing support in this matter and look after yourselves and your family.

  • Coronavirus Update

    Fri 13 Mar 2020

As a school we are kept up to date on the situation via a daily email from the Department for Education and are taking our guidance from that.

Coronavirus and it's impact on school life is discussed within Senior Leadership meetings and the information delivered to all staff and families. Teaching staff are reinforcing good hygiene practices with the children, our full-time janitor is sanitising door handles & other areas on a regular basis and office staff are closely monitoring pupil holiday destinations.

The information below is from our latest DfE email -

The situation is constantly reviewed and action informed by expert science and advice, guided by the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Scientific Adviser.

The action plan can be found here:

    Action plan recap

The action plan sets out a four-phased approach in response to coronavirus – Contain, Delay, Mitigate, and Research, based on the latest scientific evidence.

The current emphasis is on the Contain and Research phases, however planning for Delay and Mitigation is already in train.

How to wash your hands properly

Wash your hands more often for 20 seconds with soap and hot water.
Watch this short NHS film for guidance:

Teach young children how to wash their hands with the NHS handwashing song:

Public Health England recommends that in addition to handwashing before eating, and after coughing and sneezing, everyone should also wash hands after using toilets and travelling on public transport.
