Impact 2023-2024

British Science Week 2024

Teachers ran exciting STEM workshops for British Science Week. In biology children explored the school grounds on a scavenger hunt and explored symmetry in nature. In physics children learnt about forces by creating a catapult, tested the buoyancy of tin foil boats, generated static electricity and tested air resistance with helicopter spinners. In chemistry children explored carbon dioxide bubbles in lava lamps, designed unique bubble pyramids and saw capillary action in 'rainbow walking water.' To test their engineering skills, children were challenged to build the tallest tower with spaghetti and marshmallows and build the furthest flying paper aeroplane. Reception have also been busy, building towers from newspaper and exploring pitch using water filled musical bottles! Year 5 welcomed some visitors from the John Innes Centre to run their Science, Art, Writing (SAW) day, about antibiotic discovery. The practical session included growing useful bacteria from soil and purifying dyes by chromatography. The children also met the scientist’s leafcutter ants and stick insects!
