The children were excited to find lots of ice in our outdoor provision and immediately began exploring it. Before we explained anything, they made their own guesses about how it had formed—suggesting ideas like frozen rain or water turning hard overnight, and some guessing that the teachers had made it and put it out there for them!
As they investigated, they compared pieces of ice and noticed which areas had more, leading into our learning about how water freezes in cold weather and melts when it warms up.
The children showed great curiosity, prediction skills and early scientific thinking throughout their exploration.
