WB 15th June

This week we will be listening to the story The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle. We will be creating our own pirate character and will have a go at writing a simple story about our pirate. You can listen to Mrs Mace's pirate story on Tapestry  on Tuesday.  We will also be making pirate pictures on the computer and making our own pirate ships!

We are continuing with our daily handwriting and this week the letters we are practising are i, n, p and g. The practice sheets for these can be found at the bottom of this page:
https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/

On Wednesday this week we will be having our Lockdown Sport's Day! Details of activities and challenges we would like you to try at home will be posted on Tapestry on Monday and again on Wednesday. We would love you all to take part and send us your pictures and videos via Tapestry.

On Friday this week it is the Virtual Big Sing 2020. If you haven’t signed up for the virtual big sing yet, you can do so here: https://www.norfolkmusichub.org.uk/site/vbs-2020/
On the day, you’ll be sent a link to a private YouTube channel where you’ll be able to watch the concert from the comfort of your home!

To practice the songs you need to go to this website and log in with the details you were sent: https://www.norfolkmusichub.org.uk/yumu

Below is our timetable of suggested activities for this week. We’ll be posting these each day on Tapestry and you might like to upload how you get on with the activities.

Monday

Reading:

*Daily speed sounds

*Listen to the story ‘The Pirates Next Door’ by Jonny Duddle

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10AQwXOpvc8

Talk about what it would be like if pirates moved next door to you!

Writing:

*Daily handwriting practice: i
Remember: Down the insect’s body, a dot for the head.

*This week we are going to write our own pirate stories. Today invent a pirate who will be in your story. Draw a picture of your pirate, give him/her a name and write about what your pirate is like.

Maths:

*Daily counting to 20 and back.

*This week the children will be learning about odd and even numbers. If a number can be shared equally between 2 groups it is even, if it can’t it’s odd. Watch Numberblocks ‘Odds and Evens’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wzyD3qrWUc

Also:

*Practice singing the songs ready to join in with the Virtual Big Sing on Friday.

*What kinds of words do pirates use? There are lots of good pirate words in the story. Can you talk like a pirate? You could add a speech bubble to the pirate you have created. You could join in with Captain Captain from Swashbuckle singing this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiX-NGCrIa8

Tuesday

Reading:

*Daily speed sounds

*Listen to the pirate story I have written. It might give you some ideas for when you write your own. You can find it on Tapestry.
*Read a story or information book from the Oxford Owl website. Can you complete the activities that go with the book?

Writing:

*Daily handwriting practice: n
Remember: Down Nobby, up and over his net.

*Think about what your pirate might do in your story. Perhaps he/she will move in next door and come to your school or maybe your pirate will take you on a pirate adventure. Draw pictures to show what will happen in your story.

Maths:

*Daily counting to 20 and back.

*Investigate which numbers are odd and which are even. Choose a number between 1 and 20, share that number of counters/buttons/coins equally into 2 groups. If they share equally the number is even, if there is 1 left over it is odd. You could sort the numbers you investigate into odd or even.

Also:

*Practice singing the songs ready to join in with the Virtual Big Sing on Friday.

*Can you create a picture of your pirate using a paint program on the computer? (You could use ‘Paint’ or ‘Paint.net’)

Wednesday: Lockdown Sport's Day

Please see details of activities to take part in on the document posted on Tapestry on Monday and Wednesday.

Have a fun day!

Thursday

*Listen to the story ‘Not a box’ by Antoinette Portis. You will find a video of me reading it on Tapestry. I wonder what you could create from a box? We’d love to see your creations.

Writing:

*Daily handwriting practice:  p  Remember: Down the plait and over the pirate’s face.

*Today start writing your story, using your pictures to help you. How will you start your story? Once upon a time…

One sunny day…

There was once a pirate...

Maths:

*Daily counting to 20 and back.

*Go for a walk with your grown up and look for numbers on the nearby houses. What do you notice? You could make models of houses using building bricks or recycled boxes and line them up in order on the odd and even sides of the road.
